Since Lockdown began the traditional Sunday evening panic of getting organised for ‘Monday’ has altered for many of us.
For some not having the traditional Monday morning sinking feeling is a major positive, however for others the stress of getting motivated to start each new day has become the new normal?
So how do we define and adjust to this new way of working and what can we do to start each day and week fully charged?
Here are some suggestions for you to try:
Refill Your Tank
Traditionally we look at the weekend as being an opportunity to recover from the work week. Now the weekend is not clearly defined, we need to ensure that we have the discipline to give ourselves the rest we need. Taking a break from ‘technology’ and getting outside to enjoy some daylight whether it be a walk, game of tennis, or even some gardening is a great way to re-energise your body and refill your energy tank.
Exercise to Re energise
Want to start each day full of energy? Start it with an exercise workout. Exercise and movement re energise us and fills up the resources in our tank, plus it makes us feel better by increasing the endorphins in the brain.
Start Early
Working from home allows us the flexibility to make our rush hour morning more relaxing. That doesn’t mean slouching around in your PJ’s until lunchtime. Get up early, get organised and start each day early and refreshed.
Plan your Food Diary
Knowing what you are going to eat and when will help you resist those tendencies to snack. Ensuring you are starting your day with a good nutritious breakfast will keep you motivated and on track for the day ahead. Foods high in sugar may give us a short surge of energy, however that effect soon wears off and leaves us craving more high sugar foods.
Stay Hydrated
Water we all know we need to drink it, and probably more than you we do. 99 percent of the tissues in our bodies are made up of water molecules hence the importance of good hydration. We often confuse the mid-afternoon slump of energy with needing high sugary foods, when in fact it is a sign of de-hydration.
Motivation
Feeding your mind with motivational and inspirational books, quotes and video clips is a great way to start your day. A great plan if you need an extra push to go out and attack your day.
Review Your Calendar
Planning your work week is essential. Knowing what you are doing and where you are going will give you a clear purpose for the week and days ahead.
Your To Do List
The satisfaction of ticking off tasks as you complete them is self-fulfilling. It also helps those with various roles to have a written reminder of somethings that you need to be ready for. Ever popped to the supermarket to get one or two things and when you got there you forgot what you went for?
Tie up any loose ends
As tempting as it may be to leave things undone it only creates more work. When we walk back into a mess because we didn’t tie up the loose ends it takes us longer to figure out the mess on our return.
